TerraMaker is a terrain generator and editor for Terragen files. This offers a handy interface, and it’s very easy to use. Still, it's recommended that you read the documentation available to familiarize yourself with the subject.

This program allows you to generate terrain files with as few input data as possible to describe the intended terrain. It allows you to set the terrain grid points, the planetary context (where you can even set the planet radius), and the landscape area (where you configure the minimum and maximum heights). Other settings include the number of iterations, structure, and roughness parameters, which help you describe the random terrain more accurately.

The terrain view offers the classic two-dimensional view ("X-Y ") and the "Z" view that shows the terrain erosion. The "Z" view is optimized to visualize all height graduations and it is also able to show a "real" view of a scene. The edit option provides tools that allow you to modify the terrain directly. It includes such tools as erosion, lift and lower terrain, noise, blur and some others.

Unfortunately, the program itself does not offer any documentation, but there is a good help section available on its website.
